What a departure from my previous work, and how good it is to be back! I haven’t worked in the central coast of BC since 2006, and since that time I’ve worked in the coasts of Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia, Borneo, Malaysia, Brunei…. it’s good to be home, cold damp and rainy though it may be. There’s something very special about this these misty green islands, shrouded in fog and punctuated by the cries of eagles.
The water may be cold, the winds may bite, and more of the day may be spent getting into and out of layers and layers of clothing, but none of that can take away from the fact that the natural splendour above and below the water is breathtaking and very, very special. Although my head’s been spinning as I familiarize myself with the workings of a new vessel and a new operation, I still take the opportunity to lift my head out now and again and just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful it is in this part of the world, and how glad I am to see it in such a special way.
The Nautilus Swell is a great boat with a great crew, and we’re doing things on this coast that no one else is doing. I’m happy to be a part of it.
